Isabella Maldonado – the most popular Latinx thriller author

When you think of thriller authors you immediately think of James Patterson, David Baldacci, or Dan Brown. But have you heard of Isabella Maldonado? She is currently the most popular and successful Latina thriller author.

Her most recent book “The Falcon” is a bestseller that is part of the Veranda Cruz series, which features a Latina Phoenix police detective. Her publisher is Thomas & Mercer, which is owned by Amazon.

She is a published author, a retired police captain, and a regular contributor on a local television news station in Arizona as a law enforcement expert. Her last police position was Commander of Special Investigations and Forensics. During her long career, she served as a hostage negotiator, department spokesperson, and precinct commander among many assignments. She is a past president of the Phoenix Metro chapter of Sisters In Crime and currently sits on the board. She lives in Mesa, Arizona.

Here is a recent interview of Isabella Maldonado talking about her latest book “The Falcon”.

There isn’t currently a bestseller list for Latinx (Latino/Latina) authors who reside in the United States, so I decided to create one. I feel this will be encouraging for new and up-and-coming Latinx writers to be able to see their books and names on a prestigious list

I came up with this first list by seeing which book by a Latinx author was on the New York Times Bestsellers List. Making that list is the most prestigious of all, and seeing a Latinx author’s name there automatically gets them on my list. That is why I ranked Silvia Moreno-Garcia in the number one position. Then I searched the Hispanic Best Sellers on Amazon, and finally, I looked at the USA Today Best-Selling Books list.

I am open to suggestions and recommendations and welcome anyone who wants to help me to maintain this list going.

MasterClass with top Authors

About two weeks ago I subscribed to MasterClass with the sole intention of learning from my favorite author, James Patterson. I religiously watched at least two courses per day until I finally finished it. I am in the process of writing a thriller and I wanted to know how my favorite author wrote his novels. I heard about MasterClass from a friend who is a writer and she had just taken his course too. What I didn’t realize is that by subscribing to MasterClass I would also have access to other authors’ courses. Besides courses for writers, there are also cooking courses with top chefs, business courses, entrepreneurship, and even one that offers basketball tips.

James Patterson

For now, I’m sticking to the writers’ courses since I want to perfect my own writing. I am now enrolled in the course by Dan Brown where he teaches how to write a bestselling thriller, and this one is turning out to be more interesting than James Patterson’s.

Dan Brown

I plan to spend the summer of 2022 finishing writing and editing this first thriller, and then I will start on a shorter one. But I will also continue to watch as many writer courses on MasterClass by these renowned authors since my dream is to get traditionally published. And on my bucket list is to see my books on the bestseller shelves of Barnes and Noble and other bookstores throughout the world.
